Psychologist Research Assistant
May 2019 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
I liked becoming more connected with my field of study - getting to know what it looks like to actually work in the field of psychology. I also liked getting to know the professors and students better.
What I wish was different
Nothing
Advice
I would absolutely recommend that students get involved in these experiences as early as possible in their college careers. I wish that I had looked for more on-campus opportunities earlier in my studies, because there are so many good ones out there

Researcher
June 2018 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
Enjoyed looking at new code and meeting new people, gaining experience in a field I was previously unfamiliar with
What I wish was different
More guidance and structure. We spent a lot of time trying to outline the project that we did not manage to research as much as we would have liked.
Advice
Research is a valid summer option. At LMU, internships are promoted, but we don't hear much about research or what it entails.

What I liked
I enjoyed working with children of different ages, do different activities throughout the day
What I wish was different
In my opinion this is a great program to enter for the summer, so I wouldn’t change anything to be honest.
Advice
I would say that it’s important to stay concentrated at all times, even though this kind of job might seem easy, when it comes to children, you always want to make sure that they’re in a safe environment and doing the right thing.

What I liked
I loved that I was able to take on such a professional role and actually do things that make a difference in the LMU community!
What I wish was different
I wish I knew that the hours were going to be as crazy as they were. It was still a very fun experience!
Advice
I would definitely advise that you have tactics for handling time management as well as stress management. I learned very quickly that I would need to apply everything I had learned in terms of those two things in order to succeed at this internship.

Photonics Lab Assistant
May - June 2019 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
Gaining research experience is always invaluable. I enjoyed learning about a branch of science/engineering I had little experience in.
What I wish was different
I wish it had been more structured. The research was fairly open-ended and left up to us, which sometimes made it difficult to know what to do next.
Advice
Always take a research opportunity if you get the chance! It's very difficult to decide on the future from your classes alone.

Assistant to Athletics Summer Camp Director
May - August 2017 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
Jamie Sanchez, the Summer camp director, is an excellent boss who is very thorough with everything he does. Very organized and meticulous which made assisting him that much easier. I was given a range of different responsibilities from meeting with coaches to communicating with parents both over the phone and in person. A steady workload but lots of great experience.
What I wish was different
I wish the senior administrative staff in Athletics would have involved themselves more in the day-to-day operations so that they could better understand the issues we faced. This would have reduced the number of problems that came up and made the entire business run more smoothly.
Advice
Be thorough with everything you do or say because your supervisor/boss will notice and will appreciate it. Try to always be one step ahead of the game and prevent potential issues from arising simply by being attentive and proactive. When speaking with customers/clients, never promise anything you are not certain of, even when you just want to make them happy. Great customer service is important but the business is bigger than one client.
