Barista

July 2017 • Antioch, IL

What I liked

I liked interacting with costumers and creating drinks to the csotumers liking.

What I wish was different

Wish I had experience at a full Starbucks rather than inside a grocery store (Jewel-osco) because the rules and/or benefits are with the associated store. The benefits are not comparable to a free-stand alone location.

Advice

If you are applying to be a barista for the first time, do not be nervous about learning the techniques of making all the drinks on the menu because on average will only take 2 weeks to learn the menu. After the hard work of training, being a barista is great!

What I wish was different

The management team was incredibly toxic and made going to work anxiety inducing.

Shift Supervisor

August 2017 • Orem, UT

What I liked

Starbucks takes good care of their people! You get free food and drinks during your shift, stock grants, and full benefits (even for part time employees)! I’ve also had great experiences with their store managers. Starbucks places a lot of importance on creating environments and relationships that support individual wellness.

What I wish was different

Communication between corporate offices and baristas in their stores can get pretty bumpy. Baristas are often left scrambling to meet goals or prepare for events they weren’t properly informed of.

Advice

This job moves fast and stays consistently busy. There isn’t much down time, and there’s rarely a shift I walk away from feeling like I’ve met all the expectations the company places on me.

What I liked

My coworkers are very fun. The environment it fast paces and exciting. Easy to memorize and learn tasks. The place has more of a family vibe compared to a work environment. People will help you because they care about you and want you to succeed.

What I wish was different

We are making everything by hand and there can be human errors and we get chewed out sometimes. I wish we could explain why the error was made and not have to take people being overly harsh.

Advice

Just focus on learning and it will work well. It seems like a lot of work, but it gets broken up in a way that is manageable.
