What I liked

I love connecting with customers and meeting new people.

What I wish was different

I wish scheduling would have been different. I tended to be depended on heavily when I returned to work from school, which then lead to me working 40 plus hours a week.

Advice

Take a few things at a time and enjoy the moment. As easy as this job gets, you meet great and sometimes helpful customers, as well as great coworkers.

Barista

March 2016 - June 2018 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The flexible hours, they allowed me to work and go to school but were willing to give me time to study for school. They even allowed me to cut down on my hours to better fit my school schedule.

What I wish was different

I had given myself more time between my last class and when I started working, also consciously calculating commute time.

Advice

Apply for jobs that hire college students because they are more willing to give flexible hours so you can balance it with school. Save your money while you're working (put like at least 10% per check,)your future self will thank you. Most importantly, remember that school is your first priority, not money. You are in school to be able to make more money in the future, the money now is to just get by #stayfocused.

Supervisor

September 2017 • Salt Lake City, UT

What I liked

Starbucks has a lot of great benefits! And its great to make customer connections.

What I wish was different

I wish my management was different. Corporate, at times, can be difficult and if your manager doesn't support you, then you begin to feel isolated.

Advice

Don't settle - work for a company that respects you and request a livable wage. Starbucks assured me that I am an asset and, therefore, gave met he benefits/respect to show I was appreciated.

Coffee Master

March - August 2018 • Rolla, MO

What I liked

The people I got to constantly meet every day, and the consistent work pace making an 8 hour day feel like 8 minutes.

What I wish was different

The wage was less compared to other stores, but it gave me the freedom to learn at my own tempo and create relationships I can't replace.

Advice

Be kind to everyone, for you may have gotten out of different sides of the bed that morning. There is a lot of memorization, but the benefits are great, the wage is better for college students, and the job is transferable, meaning you'll always have a place to go with your career at Starbucks.
